Kawai K-15 ATX2 Hybrid Upright Piano
The new generation of Anytime Acoustic Hybrid Pianos starts with Kawai's renowned upright pianos, known for their outstanding tone, touch and quality. The 44” K-15 ATX2 features an ultra-responsive action, a hard maple pinblock for superior tuning stability, and a solid spruce soundboard for full, rich tone.
In “Acoustic Mode,” all AnyTime Pianos can be played in traditional fashion with a full-bodied acoustic tone. In “AnyTime Mode,” the hammers never touch the strings, but activate sensors integrated into the piano’s action that precisely read the movements of each hammer and relay the pianist’s keystrokes to the AnyTime’s digital components.
Borrowing technology and features from Kawai's award-winning CN and CA Series digital pianos, the AnyTime Pianos deliver a digital piano experience with no compromises. Put on head- phones, and you are instantly sitting at a 9-foot Kawai EX Concert Grand with its deep, rich bass and crystal clear treble. Kawai’s acclaimed Harmonic Imaging sound technology delivers a variety of piano sounds, along with an assortment of other digital sounds.

The K-15 features the exclusive Ultra-Responsive™ direct blow action with selected hardwood hammer shaks and 100% wool felt hammer heads, providing an extraordinary touch and feel. To improve the action's climatic stability, Kawai pioneered the use of aluminium action rails, aluminium hammer rest rails and ABS action parts – addressing many of the problems associated with wooden components, such as breakage under continual high stress, and shrinking / swelling due to changes in temperature and humidity.
The soundboard and ribs are considered the most important sound producing components of a piano, with both the materials used and the manner in which they are assembled greatly affecting volume and tonal quality. The K-15 soundboard is produced using the finest quality straight-grained spruce, carefully selected and scientifically tested to exceed Kawai's demanding resonance standards, ensuring exceptional dynamic range and outstanding tonal balance across the entire sound spectrum.
Kawai ATX2 - With the acoustic components muted, Kawai ATX2 pianos employ a unique digital technology, developed and refined at the Shigeru Kawai Research & Development Laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, calling upon the finest hand-crafted Kawai EX Concert Grand piano to deliver an unmistakably warm, authentic tone. Placed inside a purpose-built anechoic chamber, free of audio reflections, the rich sound of this world class instrument is meticulously analysed and recorded by our Master Piano Artisan pioneers. The acoustic portrait of each note is later transformed into a highly precise three dimensional digital representation, employing Kawai's proprietary Harmonic Imaging™ technology. This unique process faithfully reproduces the broad dynamic range of the original grand piano, while also providing the source for a rich selection of additional high-quality instrument sounds.
The cast iron plate is subjected to as much as 20 tons of string tension. Kawai uses state-of-the-art CAD technology to match the strength and natural tonal resonances of the plate to the require- ments of the plate design. The proper combination of plate design, back post structure and string tension provides enhanced tuning stability for decades of reliable performance.
Back posts support the plate and help maintain its structural integrity over the life of the piano. Kawai's laminated back post construction is designed for maximum rigidity to provide enhanced tuning stability and decades of reliable performance.
Kawai's exclusive Cast Brass Pedals are extremely rugged. Made with a permanently bonded brass layer over an aluminum core, they are significantly stronger and more durable than conventional “capped” pedals for lasting beauty and silent operation.
Stronger than conventional round levers, the square-tube pedal levers on the K-15 provide a flat surface for pedal wing nuts to reduce the possibility of noise when the pedals are depressed.
